WINNERS OF THE 8TH NATIONAL ARTS COMPETITION AND EXHIBITION CO-SPONSORED BY ART ACADEMY AND FABER-CASTELL
The 8th National Arts Competition and Exhibition co-sponsored by Art Academy and Faber-Castell opened on the 1st October 2009 with a large audience present and The Honourable Dolores Cristina, Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport presenting certificates.
This year the Society received entries from 80 artists with 125 pieces of work; 94 paintings and 31 sculptural pieces. A panel of independent judges was appointed to select, from that work, entries to the competition and exhibition and to elect the 12 winners. The criteria for judging was based on use of medium, aesthetics, creativity and originality. Each entry was given due consideration by the judging panel and much deliberation and debate was triggered through the process. From the criteria used for judging, originality has a high presence in the majority of works finally chosen of which there are 46; 22 paintings and 24 sculptural pieces.
